Help Fund Free Physicals for Baltimore Student-Athletes
Support the Dr. John Wilckens Pre-Physical Exam Fund
Dr. John Wilckens dedicated his career to caring for athletes—from the military to the major leagues to Baltimore’s youth. He launched the Preparticipation Physical Exam (PPE) Program to ensure that every Baltimore City student-athlete, regardless of financial circumstance, could receive the required medical clearance to play sports safely.
What began as a one-time clinic has grown into a powerful tradition. Each year, Johns Hopkins Orthopaedic Surgery brings together physicians from all departments, athletic trainers, and staff volunteers to provide these physicals at no cost—removing a major barrier to participation for hundreds of students.
Now, as Dr. Wilckens transitions into retirement, we are committed to continuing this program in his honor. The Dr. John Wilckens PPE Fund will ensure that this vital clinic is available every year, forever, giving students the opportunity to thrive both on and off the field.
With your support, we can fully endow the fund and carry forward Dr. Wilckens’ legacy of service, compassion, and commitment to Baltimore’s youth.
Give today—because every child deserves the chance to play.
