This year for my birthday I’m honoring Dr. Connie Trimble — the amazing doctor whose treatment made it possible for me to have my two children — by fundraising for her latest research initiative, "Designing T Cells for Individualized Treatment of HPV Cancers."

In collaboration with Dr. Jim Heath, Dr. Trimble is working to identify and develop HPV-specific T cell receptors from samples from a completed clinical trial which tested a therapeutic HPV vaccine for pre-cancerous lesions caused by HPV16. The team aims to build a comprehensive library of T-cell receptors which pinpoint the parts of HPV proteins that trigger cancers and precancers, and design clinical trials testing individually engineered T cells into personalized cellular therapies. Success could also lead to a new therapeutic vaccine to stop premalignant HPV disease from progressing. That is pretty amazing!
