Ethan Crabb Pediatric Food Allergy Golf Event Fundraiser 2025

If you know me, you know that I have food allergies. I was diagnosed at 3 years old, allergic to dairy, eggs, sesame, pine nuts, tree nuts and peanuts. Today, I am only allergic to peanuts, walnuts, and pecans. I am currently a junior attending McDaniel College, playing for the men's golf team. I am able to live on campus and enjoy the food in the college dining hall without living in fear of my food allergies. The research achieved at Johns Hopkins Children's Center has dramatically changed my life, and I am beyond grateful to Dr. Wood and his staff who have helped change my living condition.

Over the last 9 years, I have participated in the annual Johns Hopkins Golf Fundraiser hosted by Chuck and Olga Paterakis. Chuck is the owner of H&S Bakeries, and also has a child who has had to deal with severe food allergies.  He hosts this fundraiser to help Dr. Wood and Johns Hopkins raise money for their research.

Through the years, I have volunteered in this event and was able to meet the kind people who donated their hard earned money to the fundraiser. My team even won the tournament in 2021!

I have been lucky not to have had any major issues with my food allergies, but I have met many children during my time participating in this event, who were far less fortunate. Imagine being so allergic to wheat that while walking past a pizzeria you inhale flour in the air and have to go to the emergency room?  There are kids all over the world who suffer from severe food allergies like this, continuously avoiding food that could possibly end their life in an instant.

Since 2019, we have been able to raise over 26,000 dollars for food allergy resources and research, and this year, we plan to significantly add to that. This year, we are starting to raise funds earlier! RIght now, we have our sight set higher at 10,000!! This is a tall order but the exceptional support we have received for this fundraiser over the years has given me confidence that we can reach our goal this year!

The event takes place on May 12, 2024 at Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Maryland. We would appreciate your support this year to reach our goal!

Your donations helped support this groundbreaking achievement at Johns Hopkins Children's Center: the FDA approval of the first-ever treatment for multiple food allergies, thanks to the recent landmark study. With your support, they've revolutionized treatment options for the nearly 17 million Americans living with food allergies, offering hope where there was once only avoidance and emergency medication. Take care!

This year, my good friend Austin May is going to be helping me in my fundraising efforts! This is the third time that he has participated in this event with me, but since his first year participating, Austin has developed severe food allergies to red meat products and egg protein. His food allergies are much different than mine, and effect him in different ways, but have no doubt effected his life significantly. Check out his story with food allergies here!

Hi, my name is Austin May. I am a collegiate golfer and freshman in college. For 18 years I had lived my life without food allergies. Having the freedom eat whatever I wanted without caution or worry is something I took for granted. I am now 21, and for the past 3 years I have lived with severe beef, pork, lamb, and egg allergies. I now have to be very cautious with what I eat, to make sure I avoid having a reaction. I recently was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, so having to worry about what I’m eating definitely affects my day to day life. I hope that one day I will have the opportunity to ease my mind when it comes to my food allergies. I am thankful that John’s Hopkins holds such a great event for such an important cause for people like me, and especially for so many kids who have food allergies.
