Rudolf (Rudi) Othmar Ernst VIII (10.27.1970 – 08.31.2023)

Rudi Ernst was a remarkable man who accomplished so much and was loved by so many, though his life was cut short at the age of 52Born in Zurich, Switzerland, Rudi began his journey amidst the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps, where skiing became not just a pastime, but a passion that ignited his spirit for adventure. From his early childhood days to his subsequent competitive racing endeavors, Rudi's love for skiing was woven into the fabric of his being. His talent and dedication earned him numerous medals in downhill, giant slalom, and super-G competitions. At one point, he even trained with the Canadian Olympic Ski Team, poised to pursue a professional skiing career before his path took a different turn.

At age 12, he moved, together with his parents and brother, to New York Citywhere he embraced the vibrant energy of the Big City. This early transition laid the foundation for a life characterized by fearless pursuit and boundless curiosity.  Upon completing high school in New York, Rudi pursued his academic aspirations at Vanderbilt University, where he studied engineering, neural networks, and image processing.

His professional journey took him through esteemed institutions such as ABC Television and Disney's Imagineering group, where he left an indelible mark with his keen intellect and innovative thinking. At ABC, Rudi's passion for technology led him to design and run their first ever Media Lab.

One of his most notable ventures was the co-founding of PIXIA, a company that became synonymous with innovation and excellence. Under Rudi's leadership, PIXIA thrived, pioneering groundbreaking solutions that played pivotal roles in protecting national security and saving lives. Rudi's entrepreneurial spirit and visionary leadership propelled PIXIA to success, with over 40 patents authored under his name. His dedication to building a culture of camaraderie and excellence within the company ensured its enduring legacy, even after a successful sale of the company.

His final venture was co-founding Byrst, a technology platform company focused on the exciting world of 3D and how it promises to revolutionize the world.

Yet, amidst his professional triumphs, his greatest joy lay in his family. His wife, Jess, and their three children, Ava, Rudi, and Liam, were the center of his universe. He loved to spend all his free time with them, whether they were on an exciting vacation, fishing, golfing, camping, at the beach, or just enjoying a nice family meal in the back yard.

Despite Rudi’s passing after an intense battle with cancer, Rudi's spirit remains a beacon of inspiration, reminding us to embrace life's adventures with courage and unwavering determination.
