We have reached a milestone both for The Brady Urological Institute, and for a humble titan among us – Dr. Alan Partin.
On June 30, 2021, Alan stepped down from his three leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Through his teaching and mentorship, his clinical acumen, his scientific curiosity, his kindness and dedication, and his relentless energies, Alan has helped thousands: patients, students, residents, physicians, and scientists. Simultaneously, he has made an indelible mark on the fields of urology and prostate cancer, advancing both in ways that directly benefit patients.
With wisdom and competence, Alan has steered one of the world’s top urologic departments through modernization and expansion while strengthening its commitment to discovery and the delivery of top-notch clinical care. He demonstrated daily his true passion for teaching, heartfelt devotion to patients’ health and well-being, and deep determination to advance science.
In considering how best to honor such extraordinary contributions, we enlisted Alan himself. He told us that the most meaningful recognition would be a named professorship to support the next generation of urologists - and those generations to follow.
Following his lead, we have organized a campaign to create the Alan W. Partin, MD, PhD Professorship in Urology. When fully funded with at least $2.5 million, this endowed professorship will support a faculty member's research to develop diagnostic tools, treatments, and cures for prostate cancer, and to provide compassionate care, just as Alan did.
Alan has worked hard to develop The Brady into a true community devoted to knowledge and care. Your support will allow us to create a professorship in perpetuity, providing transformative support for future surgeons and generations of promising urologists to come - physicians who will one day have the same kind of impact that patients and families have already experienced with Dr. Partin.
Our hope is to show him, through an outpouring of support for this named Professorship, how much we all value this community, his efforts to build it, and him.
