Fred has been helping in the fight against diabetes for decades. Today he's helping to advance our Stick It to Diabetes initiative by supporting The Johns Hopkins Diabetes Registry, a dynamic database of medical information that is refreshed daily and will facilitate research and advancements in patient care by providing a vast amount of pertinent data to physician-scientists and other researchers, who will use this knowledge to improve patient care.

Laila Roth was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was eight years old.
Seventy-four years later, she lives a full life and she is delighted with the care she receives at Hopkins, as well as the encouragement to use the latest technology.
Listen to Laila's wonderful expressions of gratitude and optimism.

I have type 1 diabetes, but it does not have me. I control it, I tell it what to do, and I live my life to the fullest.
Many of you have been by my side throughout my 51 1/2 years of sticking myself, checking blood sugars, making wise food choices, and getting proper exercise. Even with my ups and downs, managing my diabetes is completely doable day to day because of my phenomenal support system and my incredible care team at Johns Hopkins. With all of you, I turn those frustrations around and keep on sticking it to diabetes.
This project to continuing enhancing and developing the Johns Hopkins Diabetes Registry will be a highlight to the already exemplary care I, and many other diabetic patients, receive at Johns Hopkins.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 16. At that time, I didn’t know what the future would hold or what my health would be like as I got older.
With the help of Johns Hopkins and my family, as well as my determination to take responsibility for my own health, at 77, I am still fishing, hunting, and enjoying life.
Thank you for being a part of my journey and for listening to my personal message below. Throughout the month, please come back to see messages from Laila, Dawn, Susan, and Fred as well!
