If you are like we were, when you hear the words Huntington’s Disease, you either nod as though you know what it is or just shrug your shoulders. We did both in 1997 when we first heard of this hereditary disease that none of us knew ran within the family. We thought: “Surely there must be something that could be done – some pill, some operation, some therapy -- that would ‘fix’ this.” Sadly, that was not true then, and although there have been advances, it is not true today.
As another year of living with HD comes to an end, we are reaching out to our network (and hopefully beyond) to help us raise awareness of Huntington’s Disease and money towards research for a cure. We are setting a goal of $20,000 for this May HD Awareness Month campaign. All money will go directly to the Johns Hopkins Huntington’s Disease Center of Excellence. All donations are tax deductible and proceeds from this drive will count towards this goal.
This May 2022, we remember our mom-Janice Turco and our-Uncle Maurice Miller, who were taken from us by this horrible disease. We also celebrate our family members (5) who continue to struggle after being diagnosed with this disease! They all support our efforts to raise awareness and ideally funds to help those affected today by providing therapy and, one day, a cure. Please watch our short video – an appeal for help. We have never done this before and this year are asking directly for your help. Anything you can do will help including just being more aware of this disease and those it affects.
